At the foot of the Jura Geneva ~ Sunday Market

Oysters, shrimp and rabbit pate

If you happen to be in Geneva on a Sunday and at a loose end, try a short 20 minute drive up the highway, direction Lausanne, taking the Coppet /Divonne  off ramp to Divonne-les-Bains, which has a great market open from 8:30 – 13:00.

Fabulous local produce, Bio products, cheeses, charcuterie, breads, fruits, spices, teas and clothes/linen goods are available.   The highlight for us is to indulge after our shopping, at the oyster bar.   Set around some high tables and a few chairs the choice of seafood is amazing along with of course, wine and champagne too.  My chief degustateur doesn’t enjoy oysters so he buys his rabbit pate, olives and a  delicious lardons and fromage baguette, which is still oven warm to have with his beverage of choice! The atmosphere is warm and convivial with a lot of fun being had by all.  Even if you haven’t made prior arrangements to meet with friends, one is bound to bump into one or two and end up spending an enjoyable time together.

After our fill of food we are happy to go back across border with our happy memories and purchases of the day, to carry us through the week!
